I saw you taking keys off of a key-ring.
You said these doors no longer open up for him
but there are cats scratching at an empty dish
hoping for the sound of sustenance long abandoned
by just hidden ribs. You’re barely covered by skin
bruised and withering in remembrance.
You said it would never happen to you again
but it did, didn’t it?
In February of 2011, we convinced our then former drummer to learn some new songs we had put together since recording “Climbing up a Mountain…” and lay down some tracks for a split. At the time we had no idea who we would share the release with, no idea what label would put it out, and few pre-conceived notions as to whether or not people would even give a shit. As has been the case with this band since day one, I couldn’t be more thankful for the small but generous support from family, friends (new and old, near and far), and music lovers. If you’re in the Northeast and not doing anything, come celebrate a record that has been LONG in the making.

You will never see
me again, not like this, as I am.
We are a construct;
Memories and anecdotes of
only what you allowed me to see,
only what I needed to hear.
But who you were then is always changing,
is up to interpretation,
is blurring at the edges
never to be shown or really known again
love, always. Always love.
Our bodies did not yet want for lack of youth
but we’re dying love. We’re born anew.
When my wings dry
and my colors show
will you speak of my flight
or only of my greens and blues?
Skin draped over sinew?
Perfume sprayed over refuse?
A stiff breeze could take us home,
or scatter us as flakes of snow
in the headlights that grope for the road
never to be shown or really known again
love, always. Always love.
It took seven falls to build these walls again.
It took winter seven springs to flow right to its death.
It took seven summer songs to get these strings to bend.
That’s all it took, and I gave you nothing.

thisisgrant asked: In response to your recent post. Tracy Chapman's Fast Car would be excellent.. although if I could make a suggestion. The ex-band Dear and the Headlights have been a favorite of mine for a few years now. In my opinon Sweet Talk, Run in the Front, Mother Make Me Golden, Flowers for my Brain, and Grace are all solid. Regardless whatever you dudes do it won't be any less than perfect.
Man, I forgot all about Dear and the Headlights! Being from Hudson, NY (where the record label was first located) and Albany (where they are located now along with MerchNow) I used to be obsessed with Equal Vision Records’ back catalogue. Because of this, I’m definitely aware of DATHL and might honestly check out those songs for a potential cover. Thanks for the input!
